Cohan Sujay Carlos has been a student, researcher and consultant in the field of Artificial Intelligence for around two decades. He is the CEO of Mechanical Chef (a startup building cooking robots) and has seen the evolution of practical AI systems over 20 years. He started working on AI back when AI systems were mostly rule-based (in the early 2000s), then lived through the statistical machine learning techniques revolution a decade later, and then the tectonic shift to deep learning models a decade ago and more recently the advent of LLMs. Cohan studied Machine Learning at Berkeley almost 20 years ago, was a contributor to Apache OpenNLP, a framework for text processing, published some research papers on machine learning and NLP, and has worked on a range of applications of ML, from using AI for medical safety to document digitization to automating customer service conversations to machine translation.
